With the Vaccine being available to people, movie theaters are finally beginning to open up again. Because of the pandemic across the country, Marvel’s Black Widow was pushed back more than a year to release. After more than a year of anticipation, it’s finally here. On July 9th the movie’s premiere, many people myself included, hurried to the theaters to see this film. So the question remains. After all the buildup and wait, is this movie worth the watch?
Black Widow is a long-time character of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Back in 2012, there were rumors of the black widow film in the works. For some reason, those talks fizzled out. And after her death in Endgame, fans were left wondering what the overall significance of this movie even has.
Black Widow Is set right after the movie, Captain America Civil war. Natasha Romanoff is on the run from the government. Romanoff is forced to get back into action when someone from her past shows up. She must succeed in order to save others from a horrible fate.
During the Opening night in theaters, Black Widow brought in near 80 million dollars to the box office. Since the pandemic, this is the most a movie has brought in. However, the numbers are quite low for a Marvel movie. But this past weekend, it collapsed by 67 percent, to under $26 million, which is very poor for a Marvel movie. So why has Marvel’s black widow done so poorly? The Washington Post reported that reducing the window to wait for the movie to be free to watch on Disney+, as opposed to available for purchase, has discouraged people from wanting to see it in theaters.
Regardless of this, I would say that Black Widow is a good watch. Especially since theaters are opening up post-pandemic, this could be the perfect film for your return to the theaters. The movie has some places that are left to be desired, however, it is made up by the amount of humor. Though Marvel’s Black Widow isn’t at the top of Marvel films, I would still highly recommend it.
